The central goal of the Atlantic Centre for Creativity and the Creative Connections Conference is to increase awareness, and enhance creative practices across disciplines including: sciences, the arts, business, entrepreneurship and education. It will be an interdisciplinary, interactive and collaborative conference designed to encourage participants to ‘think outside the box’, take risks, share new ideas and enhance teaching practices.
Students, staff, faculty, administrators, government officials, and the public are encouraged to participate and/or attend this conference.

Christine Jones - Choral Arts
Affinity & Synthesis: Their Role in Interdisciplinary Audience Engagement

Graduating in the UK with first class honours in music analysis and vocal performance, Christine continued choral conducting studies with tutors from the Liszt Academy, the Kodály Institute and Chetham’s School Of Music. Christine was a Senior Advisory Teacher for the UK’s Voices Foundation and also ran corporate choral development for organizations in the financial sector and BP European Managers. Since moving to New Brunswick in 2015, Christine has directed the UNB Chorale, the Bel Canto Singers of Fredericton, facilitated Women’s Leadership choral development sessions and prepared local singers for the performance at the inaugural ACC Conference and several appearances with Measha Brueggergosman. In May 2019 Christine devised and directed ‘Luminous’, a unique collaboration between The Bel Canto Singers of Fredericton and The Beaverbrook Gallery, featuring choral reflections on selected paintings from The Masterworks Collection.

Encountering a Culture: The Story of New Dawn Enterprises

Rankin MacSween has worked with New Dawn Enterprises since 1977. In 1993 he became President and CEO of the New Dawn family of companies.
Rankin was born and raised in Boisdale, Cape Breton Island. He holds degrees from StFX, University of Ottawa, the Merrill Palmer Institute, a PhD from the University of Toronto and holds an honorary doctorate from Cape Breton University.
Rankin is a founding member of the Canadian Community Economic Development Network. He has also served as a board member of the Church Council on Justice and Corrections, the Vanier Institute of the Family, and the Island Community Justice Society. He is a past chair of the Cape Breton Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association and in 2008 was inducted into the Cape Breton Business Hall of Fame.

STEM to STEAM: Harnessing the Connective Power of Creativity

Artist/educator Mary Stewart is the author of Launching the Imagination, a best-selling basic design textbook. Exploring a wide range of products and processes, this book treats design as both a noun and as a verb. As a co-founder of Integrative Teaching International, Professor Stewart has helped to nurture a new generation of university-level educators. She is currently working on a new book titled From Ideation to Implementation. At this Creative Connections Conference she will be giving a keynote on Stem to Steam: Launching the Connective Power of Creativity.
*This conference is being organized by the Centre for Creativity, which is an initiative supported by UNB faculty members and staff from various disciplines and centres such as PDC and TME as well as community partners including the Fredericton Makerspace and NBCCD.
